Plane Sailing Catalina G-PBYA
This photograph of the Plane Sailing Catalina G-PBYA was taken by Lee at Old Buckenham Airshow 2016. On the 30th and 31st July 2016 G-PBYA graced the skies showing the record breaking crowd below of over 5,000, just why the Consolidated Catalina Flying Boat was such a successful and diverse aircraft.
The Catalina served with distinction throughout the Second World War for a large number of operators in a very diverse range of roles from Search & Rescue to Anti Submarine. It was involved in many significant missions and actions including individual actions against German U-boats and other submarines, the locating the German battleship Bismark, and the sighting of the Japanese invasion force heading for Ceylon Island now known as Sri-Lanka.
